Ibrahim Nafees


1936 – May 20, 2012

Ibrahim Nafees was born in 1936 at Agra (India) as Syed Muhammad Ibrahim Rizvi. At the age of eleven, he along with his family members moved to Peshawar and there he received his basic education. In 1952, he joined Peshawar radio and subsequent he moved to Hyderabad radio station on its inauguration and joined as its first announcer. Other than radio he also started taking part in stage dramas, Mirza Ghalib Bandar Road Par, Lal Qila se Lalu Khet tak, Bakra Qiston par, Budha Ghar Par Hai, Behropiya were his popular stage dramas. In 1960, he stepped into films with Iqbal Shehzad’s Raat Ke Rahi which was also first film of Iqbal Yousaf. In this film Indian actress Rehana played the main lead role, later she married to Iqbal Shahzad but film was proved a flop film. Afterward Ibrahim joined Waheed Murad syndicate which gave him a very sound platform for films. Insaan Badalta Hai, Banjaran, Doraha, Jaag Utha Insaan, Phir Subah ho Gi etc gave him a breakthrough in films. Ishq -e- Habib (1965) he played hero with Talat Siddiqui. After having some place in films he shifted to Lahore and started as character actor and villain roles. He remained in films till 1980, once Urdu films were suppressed by Punjabi films so Ibrahim shifted back to Karachi and started acting in stage and TV.





Personal Life

At the time of his death he was 76 years old. His mother still resides in Uk and two sons are there at USA where as his daughter was with him at the time of his death. He married twice had two sons Syed Imran Rizvi and Syed Amer Rizvi from his first wife and a daughter from his second wife.



Demise of the Artist

Film, TV, stage and radio artist Ibrahim Nafees died on Sunday May 20, 2012 at Karachi. He was on bed for last three years, two major surgeries further weaken his health state even in his last days he faced a severe memory loss as well.
