Renowned film director and lifetime chairman of the Pakistan Film Directors Association Aslam Dar passed away in Lahore on 24 December 2014. According to his son Usman Dar, Aslam Dar suddenly had high blood pressure on 24 December 2014 and he was evacuated to Behria Town Hospital where in spite of all out efforts by the doctors finally he died on the same date. Mansoor Ali Malangi

December 10, 2014

Folk singer Mansoor Malangi died of a heart attack in his native town of Garh Mor in Jhang district on December 10, 2014. The legendary singer was evacuated to clinic on complaint of high blood pressure where he suffered a fatal heart attack and died instantly on said date. His funeral prayers were held at Garh Mor at 1400 hours on December 11, 2014. He is survived by 11 sons, nine daughters and three widows besides countless fans across the world.

Khalil

Former East Pakistani actor Khalil Ullah Khan known as Khalil died on December 7, 2014, at the capital’s Square Hospitals at the age of 80.  He had been suffering from lung, liver and kidney ailments for some time and was hospitalized several times after falling critically ill. His dead body was taken to his long-time work place, the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC), for all to pay their last respects. And then body was brought back to his house after funeral prayers. After another funeral prayer following Esha prayers, Khalil Khan was buried at the Muhammadpur graveyard.

Aqeel Ahmed Ruby

November 24, 2014

Renowned lyricist, writer, Educationist and critic Ahmed Aqeel Ruby passed away on November 23 , 2014. He was diagnosed with cancer some six months ago and for the last two weeks he was admitted to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital. He is survived by a daughter.
Ahmed Aqeel Ruby was born in 1940 and did his Masters in Urdu from Punjab University. Great literary personalities such as Sajjad Baqar Rizvi, Dr Ibadat Barailvi and Syed Abdullah were among his teachers. During his student life he was very close to famous poet Nasir Kazmi. He wrote film songs, films, novels and book reviews. He wrote books on Nasir Kazmi and Sajjad Baqar Rizvi. He was also a member of Halqa Arbab-i-Zauq. He retired from FC College as professor of Urdu in 2000. Ruby was also popular with the film folk and TV artistes. Funeral prayers for late Ruby was offered at Maki Mosque, H-Block, Johar Town, at 1400 hours on 24 November 2014.

Riaz Gujjar

October 21, 2014
Famous Film Producer Riaz Gujjar died on October 21, 2014 due to kidneys failure. He was buried at local graveyard of Lahore. Riaz Gujjar produced some of best Punjabi films, here it is worth mentioning that he produced films mostly having with surname of his cast Gujjar including his own name Riaz Gujjar. made movies giving the Gujjar names.One of them movie carried his own name. His debut film as film producer was Sala Bigra Jaye which was released in 1999. In other films Riaz Gujjar produced films like Ghazi Ilmuddin Shaheed and Jism.

Sumbal Talat

Former actress Sumbal passed away on September 13, 2014. She was born in Karachi and belongs to a Christian Family. She started her showbiz career in  1970 and worked in many TV dramas and appeared two films which were produced in Karachi. Her first TV play was Laila Majnu and then she performed in Aakhri Chattan, Shehzori, Suraj Ka Dach, Doraha etc were some of her other famous TV plays. She was heroine of a single released film Aashna (1970) with Talat Hussain. She was also in the cast of an unreleased film Sangtarash.

After spending almost ten years finally she embraced Islam and got married with famous artist Talat Iqbal in 1980. They had three children including two daughters and one son. Her daughter Somi Talat has also worked in TV Dramas. In 90s she along with her family migrated to Dalles, USA. During her lateral part of life she developed cancer and finally she died on September 13, 2014.

Habib Wali Muhammad

Renowned Ghazal singers Habib Wali Muhammad died at the age of 90 on September 4, 2014. The Rangoon-born singer, who had settled in California, breathed his last in Los Angeles. Habib Wali Muhammad had long been living in California, United States along with his wife Rehana and some other family members, including two sons namely Rizwan Wali Mohammad Tabani and Nadeem Wali Mohammad Tabani. Habib Wali Muhammad was born in Rangon but he moved with his family to Bombay. Though he belonged to an industrialist family, he always showed keen interest in music. He also won a singing competition in Mumbai which had more than 1,200 participants. His family later moved to Pakistan in 1947.
Habib was trained by Ustad Latafat Ali Khan in formal singing and rose to fame after the release of his song “Lagta nahi hai dil mera” which was a poem of Bahadur Shah Zafar. Other famous songs of Habib include “Kab mera nasheman ahl-e-chaman” and “Gulshan mein gawara karte hain”.
He also sang numerous patriotic songs as well as a few tunes for the film industry. Wali Muhammad will be long remembered for numbers of hit Ghazals he had under his belt that included ‘Ye na thi hamari Qismath, ‘Ja kahio unsay naseem-e-sahar,’‘Gajra bana kay lay Aa malaniya,’ etc.

Maqsood Hassan

Veteran radio, television and stage artist Maqsood Hassan passed away on September 3, 2014 due to heart failure at the age of 67. His funeral prayers will be held on Thursday afternoon at Ghazali mosque, Civic View, Hassan Square. He leaves behind a wife. Married six years ago, they did not have any children. Maqsood Hassan, like many actors of his generation, had started his career from a children’s program on Radio Pakistan. He lent his voice to many drama serials from room no 9 of Radio Pakistan. His acting career, spanning nearly 50 years ranged from performances for radio, television, stage and film. Veteran actor Muhammad Ali was closest to Hassan, having worked with him in many plays, including those produced by Khuwaja Moinuddin.

In addition to his career on the airwaves, the celluloid and the small screen, Hassan had also showcased his acting talents on the theatrical stage, some of which were with renowned actor Moin Akhtar. His stage play ‘Bakra qiston per’ gained critical acclaim. His last stage performance was in Nazar Hussain’s ‘Hum log.’ Despite his exploits on film, radio, and stage, Hassan will be most remembered for his role in the television drama ‘Quddusi sahab ki bewa,’ which was based on issues surrounding a lower middle class locality of Pakistan. His most memorable film remains ‘Jaag utha insaan’.

Mahmood Khan

Renowned comedian and stage actor, Mahmood Khan passed away at Mayo Hospital on July 24, 2014 after prolonged ailment. Khan was suffering from kidney problem and diabetes-related ailment from last two years. He was under treatment in Mayo hospital from one week and breathed his last in midnight of 23/24 July 2014. Mahmood’s funeral prayer was offered after Zuhr prayer following which he was laid to rest in Scheme Roundabout, Shah Farid Graveyard, Lahore. Renowned TV and stage Sindhi actor Ghulam Abbas Pirzada died on June 23, 2014, his burial was held at his hometown Dadu (Sindh) which was attended by a large number of TV and Stage artists especially from Hyderabad. Abbas started his career from Hyderabad stage and then he appeared in Sindhi dramas of Karachi TV. His plus point was comedy in Sindhi TV dramas and would be remembered for his light comedy performances.

Gulnaz (Muskan)

Famous Pashto singer Gulnaz alais Muskan was murdered in Peshawar on June 20, 2014. Her brother blamed that she was killed by her husband with whom she had some matrimonial differences. Earlier an attempt of murder was also made but she was able to escape but her mother was died.

Dabir ul Hassan

June 23, 2014
Renowned film producer, director and writer Dabir ul Hassan died  on June 23, 2014 after a prolonged ailment. He was born 1949 and was suffering with kidney problem. For last two years he was on dialysis treatment, his last dialysis was done on June 21, 2014 afterward he went into uncontrollable health state and finally took his last breath. The burial was took place at Sakhi Hassan graveyard, Karachi. He is survived by three sons including Nauman and one daughter.           Read more »

Zill e Huma

Zil-e-Huma the daughter of renowned singer Noor Jahan,  passed away on May 16, 2014 at the age of seventy. Zil-e-Huma was shifted from Agha Khan Hospital, Karachi to Lahore and admitted in local hospital where she was receiving medical treatment. Previously her foot fingers were amputated now her leg was under question. She was suffering from heat and kidneys problem but with passage of each she her health condition was deteriorated and finally she was placed on ventilator. A few days ago doctors had amputated her leg as she was diabetic. Zil-e-Huma was the youngest of the three children of the well-known singer Noor Jehan and director Shaukat Hussain Rizvi. She left behind four sons; Muhammad Ali Butt, Ahmed Ali Butt, Mustafa Ali Butt and Hamza Ali Butt.

Eminent former singer Bashir Ahmed passed away on April 19, 2014 at Dhaka, Bangladesh. he had been suffering from various diseases including cancer since long. His condition turned from bad to worse recently and he breathed his last around 10:00pm at his own house at Muhammadpur, Dhaka. His Namaj-e-Janaza was held at Jahuri Masjid (mosque) Zuhuri Mohallah Mosque  April 20, 2014 and buried at Muhammadpur’s Salimullah Road, Central graveyard near Tajmahal Road in Dhaka.

Shabir Hiader Shah

On March 30, 2014 completion of film shooting of Pashto film Badmasha Nu Badmash at Muzafarabad, its film unit moved back to Lahore at night but just after moving out of the city the coach slipped on a stone and driver was unable to control the coach and it fell down into the roadside gap. Resultantly many film unit crew sustained major injuries which includes still photographer Farrukh Khan, Hamayun Safdar where as senior cameraman Shabir Hiader Shah was seriously injured but finally he died. His dead body was evacuated to Lahore where his funeral prayers were held at his residence at Huma Block, Allama Iqbal Town, Lahore. Shabir Hiader Shah was brother of renowned film director Naseem Haider Shah.

Obaida Insari

Renowned radio, TV and film actress Obaida Insari died on March 20, 2014 at Karachi. Four years ago she developed a tumor which was operated at Liaqat National Hospital, Karachi but after four years it was again erupted due to which her health was deteriorated with passage of time and finally it became the main cause of her sad demise. She is survived with three daughters and one son and was buried in Saudabad Graveyard. Obaida Insari started her professional career from radio in 1967 and very soon she was picked by the officials and radio listeners because of her clear and unique dialogues delivery. Subsequently she joined Ptv as actress and played memorable roles and characters in many Karachi based TV plays. Khala Kalsoom Ka Kumba, Zard Mousam, Ye Zindgi hai, Qadosi Sahib ki bewa. As regard to film she appeared in Ajmal Dehlve’s Pak British Co-production film Jinnah.

In his childhood he played the role of Akmal in Yaaran Nal Baharan and then acting became his fantasy but wasn’t been able to achieve the attention of the film producers. So he had an artistic hand so started making film cinema banners and wall chalking for film publicity. Soon he became a very favorite personality of the film trade. During his prospers days he decided to produce film Do Badan under the direction of Altaf Hussain but he wasn’t been able to full fill his dream. He was buried in Miani Sahib Graveyard, Lahore in the presence of many from the film world.

He became a compulsory comedian character in recent past like he appeared in Majajan and Zilley Shah.

Sana Khan

Actress Sana Khan died in road car crash on March 7, 2014. She along with her husband actor Babar Khan was on their way from Karachi to Hyderabad in a car.  The car driven by Babar went out of control near Looni Kot and overturned as a result of which both Sana Khan and Babar Khan received serious injuries. On receiving information, the motorway police along with ambulance reached on the spot and shifted them to Liaquat University Hospital Jamshoro where Sana Khan breathed her last before she could get any first aid. Babar Khan was later shifted to Liaquat University Hospital City Branch. Babar has suffered serious injuries in the accident and is in critical condition.

Former actor Ghayyur Akhtar passed away on February 7, 2014, he was paralyzed in 2011 which affected his physical free movement but instead getting it on his nerves he kept on working for Radio Pakistan from his house. On February 6, 2014 he was evacuated to the Services Hospital Lahore as his condition deteriorated severly but next day on February 7, 2014 he took his last breath. At the time of his death he was eighty five years old. Some of his films include Kirdar, Gulu Badshah, Jani Dushman, Sajjawal, Sodha Pit Ja, Darya Khan and Ghairat Jo Sawal. After the fall of Sindhi films he diverted his attention towards TV dramas and directed Fasely and Sindhi serial Rani. He is survived by widow, daughter and grand daughter.

Laiq Ahmed

Renowned TV compere, anchor, educationists and host Professor Dr Laiq Ahmed Khan breathed his last on January 27, 2014 after struggling with a brief illness at the age of 80. He was laid to rest in the H-11 graveyard in Islamabad. He left behind a widow and seven children, including five daughters and two sons.
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Dr. Nazir Saeed, PML-N Information Secretary Senator Mushahidullah Khan and a large number of people from different walks of life attended his funeral.

Bahar Ali

January 21, 2014
Former playback film singer Bahar Ali died on January 21, 2014 due to heart attack and was laid to rest in Miani Sahib Graveyard at Lahore while a large number of people from the showbiz world attended the funeral. For films his number of songs are limited and his most popular film song was O Farzana, jan e jana, abb mil karen ge hum rozana from Sangeeta’s film Mian Bivi Razi which was released on January 29th, 1982 and music was composed by Kamal Ahmed.
