Eminent former singer Bashir Ahmed
Renowned singer Bashir Ahmed was born at Khidirpur in Kolkata (India) in 1939. He started off with classical music at the age of fifteen and had his early lessons in classical music from Ustad Belayet Hussain of Kolkata. He then moved to Bombay, where he was tutored by the legendary Bare Ghulam Ali Khan. Subsequent he started his career as a playback singer in Urdu films.
Bashir Ahmed migrated to Dhaka in the sixties. Earlier, He made his debut in films by composing songs for Sagar before he turned to playback singing. And then he gave one hit after the another. Other than Urdu he gave some everlasting songs of Bengali films as well. He wrote songs and sang in a number of Indian and Bangla movies.
His wife Meena Bashir is a leading singer and both his daughter Humayra and son Raja Bashir have done music albums. During his long career he received many awards, including National Film Award and Bangladesh award Ekushey Padak.
Demise of the Artist
Eminent former singer Bashir Ahmed passed away on April 19, 2014 at Dhaka, Bangladesh. he had been suffering from various diseases including cancer since long. His condition turned from bad to worse recently and he breathed his last around 10:00pm at his own house at Muhammadpur, Dhaka. His Namaj-e-Janaza was held at Jahuri Masjid (mosque) Zuhuri Mohallah Mosque April 20, 2014 and buried at Muhammadpur’s Salimullah Road, Central graveyard near Tajmahal Road in Dhaka.
